The Friends of Mercy are proud to announce that Francis A. Keating, III is being honored with the Bishop John R. McGann Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023. Mr. Keating has been involved with Mercy Hospital since 1984 when his wife, Kristine (Kleinert), joined Mercy’s Nursing Department while a student at Molloy College. The Keating’s began attending Friends events in 1994.
Frank was appointed to the Board of Sponsors in 1997 and was elected Secretary in 1999. He was elected to the Mercy Hospital Board of Trustees in June 2000 and served through September 2006. Frank is proud to be a part of history in the making; while serving his one-year term as President, the Friends started accepting female Honor Guard nominations to the Mercy Ball.
Frank has been involved in a wide range of community activities including: various events for the Chaminade High School Alumni Association, St. Agnes Elementary School Father’s Club (President), and Rockville Centre Little League (Treasurer, Vice President, Chairman of the Board, and recently Founding Chairman of the Hall of Fame).
In addition to coaching in Rockville Centre Little League from 1980 to 2010, Frank was Founding Commissioner of the Catholic Middle Level Baseball League in 2006, and started the St. Agnes Baseball Team the same year. He remained in both positions through the 2009 season.
Mr. Keating was born in Flushing, Queens to Frank (R.I.P. March 2022) and Jeanne Keating. The Keating’s moved to Rockville Centre in 1962. Frank is the oldest of four children and graduated from St. Agnes Cathedral Elementary School and Chaminade High School.
Mr. Keating graduated from St. John’s University College of Business Administration and received a MBA from Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration. His career includes twenty-two years in the trust and investment sector of the financial services industry, specializing in corporate retirement plans and non-profit custody services. He spent most of the time with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company and The Bank of New York. Frank served the Village of Rockville Centre as Deputy Superintendent of Parks & Recreation from June 2003 to May 2004 when he was appointed Safety Coordinator and Records Director. He continues to hold both titles in addition to Fields Schedule Coordinator since February 2012.
Frank and his wife, Kristine were invested as Knight and Lady of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in September 2000. The Keatings are the parents of two sons, Francis IV and Robert – both born at Mercy Medical Center. Francis and Bobby both graduated from St. Agnes Elementary School. Francis graduated from Chaminade High School and Bobby graduated from Kellenberg Memorial High School. Frank and Kristine’s first grandson Bobby was born in July 2023.
